One Night in Lexington

When I was a child, my dad used to take me to Lexington quite often. He did alot of research and reading about Robert E. Lee and we would visit the Lee Chapel. Rockbridge County is chock-full of American history.

It is a beautiful little town and my husband and I have stayed there for our anniversary several times. I definitely recommend taking the carriage tour.

Lexington Carriage Company

Woody & Weepy

You can wait for the carriage at the stop at 106 E. Washington Street - Wednesday to

Sunday from 11am to 4pm or you can call and set up a private tour.

The tour guide is very knowledgeable about the history of the town. We had the same guide when we took the carriage ride in downtown Roanoke for Dickens of a Christmas.

A carriage ride has become one of my favorite things lately! I highly recommend it, especially when you first get there. Ask the guide about their favorite restaurants and places. They are locals and will know where to go.

You can book a tour here.

Favorite Bookstore: Bookery Limited

107 W. Nelson Street

Favorite Shop: Lizzie's of Lexington

16 W. Washington Street

Sadly the shop will be closing soon.

Restaurants

30 S. Main Street

The Juniper Lounge is located in the Gin Hotel. Their food is excellent. I love sitting on the terrace.

125 W. Nelson Street

The Blue Sky Bakery is a great place for lunch. My favorite sandwich is the Blue Sky warmed on their focaccia bread with their pesto mayonnaise. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

There are several other restaurants that have been recommended that I will be visiting. Look for a later post for those reviews.

Favorite Coffee Shop: Lexington Coffee Shop

9 W. Washington Street

Since I was a barista for many, many years and managed a very successful coffee shop, I have to say that my favorite in Lexington is the Lexington Coffee Shop. Their product is excellent.

But Pronto Caffé & Gelateria on Main Street is so cute. I feel like I am in Italy when I step into their shop. It is a nice place and I did enjoy their cappuccino.

We have stayed at the Gin Hotel (formerly Robert E. Lee Hotel) a couple of times. It is very nice and basic. Staff have always been nice and rooms clean. My wish list is to stay at The Georges. (When I do, I will write another post for it, so be on the look out for that review!)
